Surfers who live in or visit locations with particularly warm water may opt to wear a rash guard instead of a wetsuit.

What is a shortie wetsuit?

 

A shortie describes a wetsuit that doesn't reach all the way down the legs. Put most simply, it has shorts instead of pants, with the material stopping about mid-thigh or just above the knee.

Many surf enthusiasts opt to wear shorties instead of full suits to strike a balance between warmth and mobility during the warm season. The top of the suit may or may not cover the arms but always covers the core of the body to keep the surfer warm.

How do I change out of my wetsuit in public?

Men and ladies alike use towelling or weatherproof robes to change in and out of their surf gear without worry.
